Concrete Repair

Spalling (surface chipping): Concrete spalling is a very common problem that will lead to cracking of the concrete pad if the problem isn’t addressed. Spalling occurs when the original concrete was mixed with too much water. Our remedy is to apply a properly mixed topcoat to your pad to prevent further damage from occurring.

Cracks: Cracks in concrete always occur from a poor base. The ground shifts over time, and if your pad didn’t have a sufficient base, you get settling. The most common areas for cracks are along the edges of your pad and the ‘corners’ of your driveway approach. The proper way to fix this is to cut out the weakened area, dig several inches below and around, and install compact gravel. We then drill into the existing pad to accept new rebar, and pour a fresh repair upon a proper base.

Failing: When you have a crack through the main body of the pad, then you have a real cause for concern. This is indicative of an eroded base that is causing your pad to absorb all of the weight. This is something that can be repaired if caught soon enough. However, if neglected, a crack through the main body of a pad will lead to ‘pot holes’ in your driveway, requiring a full replacement of the pad.

Point Tucking

Mortar is the ‘glue’ that keeps your brick work together. When mortar begins crumbling, you are literally just a few seasons away from loose bricks. During the winter months, water constantly freezes and thaws. When water freezes, it expands. Most damage to brickwork is discovered in the spring of the year, after extensive damage has already been done. It is recommended for brick work to be inspected annually. A few hundred dollars today can literally save you a few thousand dollars next summer.
